Artist Statement
My conceptual artwork illustrates my perspective towards cultural identity. Having to compare cultural identity between America and the Philippines, I have been studying the different perspectives I had as an immigrant. Living here in America, there has not been a lot of artwork representing the effects of American Colonialism in the Philippines. There has not been a stance between the harsh consequences of American colonialism. My artwork centers around the materials in visualizing and capturing a concept. These materials aim to create pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also meaningful and thought-provoking. With images and digital collages, I have used materials to insinuate a relationship between both sources. Instead of regularly printing on photo paper, I would use various expressions on different mediums in projecting imagery. Mainly, I would use laser etching to project images into materials give significance in introducing a culture.

Artist Biography
Eleazar Maslian is a New Mexican-based mixed media artist born in Benguet, Philippines.   His work consists of photographs being translated onto raw materials, adding a more resounding conversation about American colonialism in the Philippines. Maslian has been producing artwork that has an open conversation about the history of Filipino-American colonialism. He was part of a group exhibition named "New Wave" that was shown in Colorado, New Mexico and California.
